Since December 30, 2025, the operation company Nea Egnatia Odos Leitourgia (NEOL) – 75% owned by Egis and 25% by Gek Terna – has been operating the major Egnatia Odos motorway network in northern Greece. Egis is also an investor in the overarching concession company, which will deliver a significant five-year program of roadworks and equipment upgrades. Both the concession and operating contracts run for 35 years.
A global independent leader
With the launch of Egnatia Odos, Egis reinforces its position as the world’s leading independent motorway operations and maintenance provider, managing a total of 7,800 km of motorways, including 192 km of tunnels, across 25 countries and five continents.
NEOL employs nearly 1,000 people and handles all Operation and Maintenance (O&M) activities: toll collection (18 mainline toll plazas and 36 ramp plazas), traffic and incident management (including patrols), routine maintenance, and winter operations. NEOL will also manage asset management services and deploy digital asset management solution.
The project is backed by major financial institutions, including Piraeus Bank, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece, and Alpha Bank.
This long-term commitment strengthens Egis’s footprint in Greece and across the Mediterranean, where it already operates the Thessaloniki automated metro, the Gebze-Izmir motorway and the Bosphorus tunnel in Turkey, as well as the airports of Larnaca and Paphos in Cyprus.
Egnatia Odos
Egnatia Odos is a vital trade corridor linking Southern Europe to the Middle East. Spanning mainland Greece, it connects Turkey to Central Europe (Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria) and to Italy (Ancona, Bari, Brindisi).
The network consists of the entire A2, running east-west across northern Greece, and three north-south axes:; A25, A29, and a section of A1 (see map below).
This infrastructure is key to the mobility of people and Greece’s economic development as it connects 11 cities, 4 ports, and 7 airports.
