The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) retained McIntosh Perry to complete a traffic impact study for its new facility. The proposed OPS facility is expected to be able to better serve the growing Barrhaven and Riverside South communities and allow for the consolidation of existing smaller detachments. This project included the assessment of impacts from the new development on the local road network and multi-modal facilities and review of traffic control at proposed accesses to the development.

The proposed development is expected to be completed in three phases. Phase 1 will see the construction of a 3-storey detached police facility building with a total building area of 20,373 m2 (219,290 ft2). The entire facility is expected to be constructed in Phase 1 while some portion of the building will be left as shell space which will be fitted out and occupied in Phase 2. Phase 3 of the project has not yet been planned. However, approximately seven acres of the southern portion of the subject lands has been reserved to accommodate any future development. Contract documentation for Phase 1 is expected to be completed in 2019 with construction to be completed in 2021. The shell-space created in Phase 1 will be fit-out and occupied during Phase 2 which is expected to be completed in approximately 2022/2023.
