Practical and Effective Erosion and Sediment Control Measures
(September 27, 2010)

« Return to main news page

McIntosh Perry staff along with contractors recently received commendation from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and City of Ottawa staff for the design and implementation of erosion and sediment control (ESC) measures at two challenging construction projects in Ottawa.

The flurry of recent road construction activities has resulted in the requirement for the design and installation of effective ESC measures to protect many watercourses from potential impact due to erosion during construction.  McIntosh Perry staff designed measures for high-profile projects on Terry Fox Drive and Hazeldean Road in Kanata.  Staff also conducted regularly weekly inspections of these measures to ensure that they were effective for the duration of the construction projects.  Ministry of Environment and Mississippi Valley Conservation staff recently toured these sites along with City of Ottawa personnel and were “very impressed by what they saw at both sites”.  The ESC measures have been effective over the entire construction season and have been maintained by the contractor with regular inspections (and reporting) by our staff.

McIntosh Perry can provide owners (municipalities, governments and private enterprises) with effective ESC designs and follow-up monitoring and inspection programs.  Our ESC measures are designed by experienced environmental engineers to protect the environment, meet Provincial and Municipal Standards and be readily constructed and maintained by contractors.  Staff in all our Ontario offices are available for inspection services of ESC measures.
